Teaching is a fulfilling but challenging career. Many days, you might feel like you’re running on empty. But when you remember why you started and the impact you make, motivation can rise again. Here are my seven reasons for staying motivated as a teacher:

There’s nothing like seeing a student finally “get it” after struggling. I call it the “light bulb moment”—that moment when everything clicks, and they finally understand a concept that once seemed impossible. Whether it’s mastering a difficult equation or overcoming a personal challenge, seeing that spark of realization is the true reward. Their growth, both academically and personally, is the real motivation that keeps me going.
2. The Relationships You Build
Building relationships with your students is one of the most important aspects of teaching. The bonds you create often last beyond the classroom. I remember receiving an email from a student after I switched schools. She shared that, a year before, she had written in her journal about how much she loved my class and how she could see my Savior in my life. Moments like these remind me that the connections I make with students often go deeper than I realize and leave lasting impacts.
